INSTRUCTOR:
LAURA WHITTEMORE

LOCATION:
Sandy River Delta, Troutdale, Oregon

The cottonwoods and open grasslands here host many songbirds, making a morning at the Delta an extraordinary experience of sound. Residents such as Bewick’s Wren and American Robin are joined by migrant Black-headed Grosbeaks, Lazuli Buntings, Yellow-breasted Chat, and House Wrens, along with many more singers. It’s a truly amazing spot! You’ll learn to open up your ears to the voices around you and come away with a new appreciation for the sounds birds make and how to use this skill, not only to identify the singer but to understand what their voices can tell us.

The Sandy River Delta park is also a very popular off-leash dog park, so we will encounter many dogs. But away from the crowded parking lot, everyone spreads out and can enjoy their activities in relative peace.
