HAWKWATCHING AT BONNEY BUTTE

from $10.00

(IN PERSON)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2021, 9:30am

Registration closes at 6:00pm the evening before the class. Be sure and reserve your spot!

Join TreeSong and HawkWatch International at the Bonney Butte hawk migration site on the southeastern flank of Mt Hood to witness the southbound migration of numerous raptors, including Sharp-shinned and Cooper’s Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, Golden Eagles, and sometimes a surprise or two, like a Northern Harrier or a Northern Goshawk. Bonney Butte is situated along ridges that provide migrating raptors the warm rising air they need to soar and travel without expending much energy. Hawkwatching is a unique opportunity for unobstructed views of raptors in flight at relatively close range, giving you lots of chances to see different species’ flight silhouettes, an important key to raptor identification.

We will meet at 9:30am at Government Camp (more details to come). The last four or so miles up to the HawkWatch site are very rough, so a high clearance vehicle is recommended. Carpooling is encouraged. If you're interested in carpooling, please email us and let us know: hello@treesongnatureawareness.org.
