birds of prey online birding class

SATURDAY, december 5, 2020, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM pacific time
VIA ZOOM (class not recorded)

Registration closes at 8:00 am the morning of the class. Be sure and reserve your spot!

Instructor:
Laura Whittemore

Meet the many diurnal (active by day) birds of prey found west of the Cascades at this time of year. From the ubiquitous Red-tailed Hawk to the frustratingly similar Cooper's and Sharp-shinned Hawks, you'll get ID tips, natural history facts, and resources for further study of these amazing birds.

The presentation will include:

  • The major differences between eagles, hawks, and falcons

  • How to spot raptors and ID them by shape and size

  • Habitat and prey preferences

  • Information about not only year-round residents like the Red-tailed Hawk but winter visitors like the Rough-legged Hawk and Merlin

  • Tips on where to go raptor watching in winter in the Pacific Northwest

This is a great opportunity to learn about and draw closer to the birds of prey that soar the skies of Washington and Oregon.

Tuition: $5 - $20 sliding scale

The link to the Zoom meeting will be sent out to attendees before the workshop time.
